About Mekong Institute

Overview
The Mekong Institute (MI) plays a pivotal role in fostering regional cooperation and integration in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) to advance sustainable socioeconomic development and alleviate poverty. MI, representing Cambodia, P.R. China, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam, aligns its strategies with key frameworks such as the GMS Cooperation Program Strategic Framework 2030, ASEAN Economic Community, and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
MI implements projects in areas like Agricultural Development and Commercialization, Trade and Investment Facilitation, and Sustainable Energy and Environment. It also addresses social inclusion, vulnerability, digital economy and innovation, and labor mobility to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development outcomes. By utilizing its regional network and expertise, MI generates and disseminates knowledge, facilitates effective project implementation, ensures policy coherence, and supports dynamic development programming through capacity-building initiatives, evidence-based studies, and platforms for knowledge exchange. These services foster cross-sectoral and multi-country collaborations, enabling efficient resource mobilization and assisting governments and regional cooperation mechanisms in addressing the current and future needs of the people in the GMS.
